Firemen said they found the blaze was raging on the top floor of the three-storey building. While the police said that suicide could not be ruled out, they categorically stated that it cannot be confirmed as of now.
Firemen said that when they reached the spot, the entire flat was ablaze. A police officer said that they stepped into the house after the flames were put out. "That's when we found the girl lying inside; she was burnt. We called up her father," he said.
Assistant medical officer of Sion hospital, Dr Mukesh Jha, said the girl was brought dead around 3.45 pm.
A resident of the building, Sanjeet Utekar, said that the entire house enveloped in smoke which was billowing out.
The girl was a student of class IX student. Her father is a constable posted at Vakola police station.
